There is a bug for moving to Tycho already [2] and it's time to revive the discussion and simplify releng processes and reduce the number of tools we use.
The way I look at things is - if I'm struggling to have all the various "specialized" tools needed we have while being paid to do it full time and years of releng experience with eclipse projects we have close to zero chances in attract new people in helping and it's time to think more seriously about that.



Thanks Alex for bringing the motivation, I've invested the day in refreshing all those efforts on https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=500769 / https://git.eclipse.org/r/c/simrel/org.eclipse.simrel.build/+/170553 to move SimRel to Tycho, and resubmitted a change for CBI aggregator to allow generating an equivalent-ish Tycho build (pom.xml+category.xml) which was used to SimRel https://git.eclipse.org/r/c/cbi/org.eclipse.cbi.p2repo.aggregator/+/81540 . I'm waiting for completion of local build and will report some feedback on the related bugs or Gerrit.
