Re: [cross-project-issues-dev] Incompatible workspace upgrade

Nothing has changed specifically in Mars M2. You didn't miss an
announcement.

What you see is probably a combination of
https://bugs.eclipse.org/423882 : fixed workspace version checks and
improved dialogs that tell about potential problems
https://bugs.eclipse.org/441497 : we missed to update platform feature
versions in time for Mars M1, so you only get the dialog in M2.

The explained "incompatibility" matches the "Workspace Compatibility"
policy outlined in the readme:
https://www.eclipse.org/eclipse/development/readme_eclipse_4.4.php#Compatibility

Switching back to older Eclipse versions has never been officially
supported.
It works on a "best effort" basis -- in practice, it's often working fine,
but it's not well tested and hence more risky than just moving forward.

=> What has changed is that you are now informed about the risks.
