[This is exactly why I dislike SVN intensely.]

In my experience catastrophes stem from a careless, and very easy to do, copy of one folder/package to another without taking great care to delete the .svn tree that accompanies the copy. Failing to remove one of the schizophrenic associations, means two rival synchronisations that fight each other until you do a major delete and recreate.
