RE: [cross-project-issues-dev] Getting started page

I second that, and Tim's response was much politer than what I was getting ready to write.
A Web Applications view is essential., How'd that drop off the radar?

I do like the organization and content of the "second level" pages, but that first page ...

Starting off with "I" does not seem to be a "conversational tone" if that's what was being attempted.

Isn't the key to a conversation is to have two participants?  Two sides?

I'd suggest something more like ....

Are you interested in a specific area of Callisto?

          Yes, I create Web Applications.

Yes, I do C/C++ Development, and that's all I want to know about.

What's all this I hear about Rich Client Platform (RCP) applications? I want to make one.

I'm interested only in the plan 'ol   traditional Java and Plugin Development. What's new?

No, tell me about everything that is in Callisto.

None of the above. I am an adopter of Eclipse technology that builds add-on plugins on top. What
        should I know about Callisto?

Of course, no need to use those exact words ... but, hope the convey my meaning, and a slightly different message to users.

Contrast with the proposed
     I build Java Applications
I build Plugins and RCP applications
     I build C/C++ applications
That sounds to me like we are just forcing the user to answer some survey questions before we let the in to the real site.

Use, or not, as you like (as long s "Web Apps" are added in there somewhere :)

And, to repeat the positive, those second level pages look great, and very helpful to end-users.
I appreciate the work that is being put into them. Thank you very much.

At the risk of sounding project centric...how about an "I build web
applications"? That captures a larger user demographic than RCP
developers.

Subject: [cross-project-issues-dev] Getting started page

Hey folks. We've been putting some thought into some "getting started"
information for the Callisto landing page. What we're thinking is that
we'll
include the three fancy graphics on this page:

http://eclipse.org/callisto/getstarted.php

Onto the landing page.

So...

I'm curious to learn how you feel about this page. Is it a good idea?
Does
it come close to providing what folks need? Do you like the format? Is
the
way it works more or less obvious?

Feedback and comments welcome.

I know that the C/C++ page doesn't exist yet. That's next (assuming
enough
of you like what's there so far).

And, I need a good concise (i.e. one sentence) description of DataTools.

Thanks,

Wayne
