RE: [cosmos-dev] IBM JRE for windows - Unable to install

David,

I am able to install IBM JRE (ibm-java2-i386-jre-5.0-6.0.i386.rpm) on Linux box (non-IBM PC, again Dell hardware), installation is successful.

[root@rhel5_mr2 bin]# ./java -version

java version "1.5.0"

Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build pxi32devifx-20071025 (SR6b))

IBM J9 VM (build 2.3, J2RE 1.5.0 IBM J9 2.3 Linux x86-32 j9vmxi3223-20071005 (JIT enabled)

J9VM - 20071004_14218_lHdSMR

JIT  - 20070820_1846ifx1_r8

GC   - 200708_10)

JCL  - 20071025

Thanks,

Srinivas

Thanks, Srinivas.  Since the DeveloperWorks web site is pretty clear on this, and you and Jimmy have confirmed it, I think we have our answer re: Windows.  Can you check to see if the Linux VM from IBM is installable for you on your non-IBM machine?  I am expecting it to work, given that I don't see a similar note for that one.

Thanks,
David

[cosmos-dev] IBM JRE for windows - Unable to install

Hi,

I have downloaded IBM JRE (ibm-java2-ibmpc-jre-50-win-i386.exe) for windows from http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/java/jdk/index.html and I am not

able to install this on my Dell Desktop PC (Intel P4 2.8GHz, 1 GB Ram, Windows XP SP2)

Can anyone let me know, how do we install IBM JRE for windows on non-IBM PC?

·       IBM 32-bit Runtime Environment for Windows
This is the
IBM 32-bit Runtime Environment for Java 2 (JRE), Windows Edition. To be able to install this JRE your computer must be an IBM system, as shown by a BIOS check. It must also be running Microsoft Windows Me, 2000, or XP. Or it must be updated with the latest WMI classes if running an older Microsoft operating system. And, finally, you must have Administrator level access.

Thanks,

Srinivas
