[cobol-dev] Our interest in the Eclipse COBOL project

We have been updating the cobol project and have the editor working in 3.4.  We have made significant changes to it to remove the fujitsu dependencies and support other dialects of Cobol.  We have no use for the rest of the project.  It would be good to have a group dedicated to the editor only.  But that’s our bias.

 

It makes sense to cancel the project so that, perhaps, another might rise in its place.  The biggest obstacle to a full-blown open source cobol IDE is the lack of an open-source COBOL compiler.   There are some COBOL->C->native compilers, but for most of us that doesn’t help.
