I support this change. We have had it that way in our product for years, for the same reasons. Since we use a patched CDT anyway, we just changed the hardcoded default (https://gitlab.indel.ch/thirdparty/org.eclipse.cdt/commit/13dfdd1128cf1e79d7b521e3567e6bb60d8b25c2).
