Hi Doug, I just have to agree to Marc. I remember the beginning in 2002/2003 when I was in my last year at university and had to write my diploma thesis about a runtime for runtime-reconfigurable systems. It was a mixed C/C++ project, and I was looking for something better than Visual Studio or Vim or Emacs. And even though we had problems here and there, the overall experience of CDT never got me disappointed. Even up til now, I use CDT at work especially regarding the parsing / indexing and the syntax highligthing incl the enabled / disabled code highlighting. I remember ~2007 when I was trying to find a bug in the Vector ComStack, which is highly depending on macros for enabling of features. I found the bug in less than one day, which would have taken most likely 2..3 days otherwise. I also have surely seen the change of the processor / tool vendors, replacing there mass of IDEs with Eclipse/CDT based tools. Unfortunately, besides my first semester, I was never keen on developing in Java myself. That's why I never could contribute codewise to CDT. I'm an embedded guy :). I also checked more than once to go to EclipseCon Europe, but most of the time my projects needed attention or I was away on vacation. You left a tremendous mark in the Eclipse and CDT world, I guess Jonah will have it hard to follow your steps. I can completely understand how hard it must be, to give your "baby" into other hands, its similar to my short range radar projects I did in the last 14 years, beginning as developer, then SWPM to now as an SW Architect. What direction will it take, if I'm not there anymore, not directly writing the code or setting up the configuration, how to finally training all the new developers in AUTOSAR, its usage, concepts and features. I think you did and mentored well. One thing about current directions. I'm not sure about that cloud and web IDE directions is so helpful for CDT in the field of embedded C/C++ development. Our developers usually have their targets hooked up locally to their PCs. I could maybe just think of developing against a CI/CT setup, incl. a JTAG connected debug ECU with CAN or Ethernet connections prepared for testing. These are not standard C/C++ PC applications you can distribute off to any connected PC. In my opinion, it still needs local IDEs for us. Cheers Doug, have fun in your new job. I wish you the best. And I've see a lot of passion with our existing bunch. I'm not too worried about the future of the CDT.
