Re: [cdt-dev] Fwd: [epp-dev] Juno M5 packages

I think, yes, it is downgrade. Things become better with "classic" style, however, the colors customization is not supported (yet?). I am not sure whether it is a reported bug.

I guess the question we should ask, is 4.2 uglier than 3.x? Is it a
downgrade or just didn't meet expectations?

That is the reason, why I asked about the 3.8 release :)

4.2 is not only buggy, but the UI looks ugly. Do you know if any UI designer
work is planned for 4.2?

The plan has always to ship the Eclipse C/C++ IDE in Juno with the 4.2
platform. In theory CDT could be used with both 3.8 and 4.2, but the
package at eclipse.org will be 4.2.

Now, there is a subplot to this all. As McQ announced recently, the
platform UI team is low on staff and this plan is in jeopardy. That's
why finding these bugs is so important right now, so we can assess how
good 4.2 is going to be and to see if these issues get addressed (and
help get them addressed if you have the time/expertise to help). They
are still committed to 4.2, but I am worried about it.

But, yes, as I stated a few weeks ago here, please use 4.2 as your dev
environment for CDT master (which will likely be CDT 9 - should make
that call too I suppose).

I cannot find the actual information, will Eclipse 3.8 (with CDT) be
released? Or just 4.2?

Marc-Andre is right. E4 currently has some limitations
that affect the CDT quite much. The E4 team is pretty responsive
when we let them know of the issues, so it will be important
to report our issues.

For example, cutomizing perspectives is not supported right now,
which prevents some features of CDT from being accessed altogether:

I highly recommend that people test it. I only tested it for a very
short time and already found 3 issues.
