[cdt-dev] FW: [eclipse-dev] Git pointers

As you may know, the Platform team is also going through a git transition. I’ll forward anything that may be of interest to us as well, like this note from John A.

Subject: [eclipse-dev] Git pointers

As mentioned in the meeting minutes, the Eclipse project is currently working on migrating to Git. I was asked after the call for pointers to resources on learning more about Git. The best starting place is:

http://wiki.eclipse.org/Git

I strongly suggest you read through that entire page to be aware of how Git is operating at eclipse.org, the implications on IP workflow, etc. For learning more about Git in general, the section of that page called "Committers new to Git" has pointers to some useful documents. The "Git Parable" is a useful read to help understand the deeper conceptual difference between patch-based systems like Git and file-based systems like CVS. The other guides are more useful once you are using Git to learn about some of the work flow corner cases.

John
