All you need just turn on option in
org.eclipse.cdt.releng/master/build.properties.
As I can see it was originally committed as

javacFailOnError=false

But should be

javacFailOnError=true

I just tested with build of my own small pde project. Default value of
javacFailOnError=false. So to control the build you have to use
javacFailOnError=true.
