[cdt-dev] Diff/merge - "Ignore whitespace" setting doesn't stick?

Is there a way to make "Ignore whitespace" setting for Diff/Merge tool  
to persist between the tool invocations? Currently, it resets to  
unchecked every time.

While on the same note, is there a way to tell the editor to not  
remove whitespace at the end of the line? While generally a good  
thing, I'd prefer it to be a result of an explicit action, rather than  
casually changing the existing code while editing.
