[bpmn2-modeler-dev] BPMN2 Modeler Project Status for 13 July, 2012

Hi all,

In the interest of spreading the joy about the BPMN2 Modeler project, and also to minimize the
spam I send out to those of you who aren't really interested and would rather not be receiving
these updates, I've decided to post weekly status updates to the project developer mailing list [1]
instead. So, if you would like to continue to follow the awesome progress of this awesome project
please subscribe here [2].

If you have questions, gripes or legitimate complaints you may also want to peruse the project
community forum [3]. At the very least it offers a place for you to vent your frustrations ;)

For general project information, where to get the latest code and builds, etc. please visit our
eclipse project website [3]. It has a lot of [OK, sometimes outdated] information that will help
get you started.

OK, now that THAT is out of the way, let's get on with this past week's highlights.

* Andreas Drobisch from camunda has started working on OCL validation (OCL is not a compound,
it's hypochlorite! ;) There is still a lot of work to be done in this area but it's a good start.
* Roman Smirnov, also from camunda, has expressed an interest in the project and has made several
important contributions. I think it's time to consider recommending him for committer status so
he can continue his excellent work unimpeded :)
* I have been working on expanding the editor's file import capabilities to include BPMN 2.0 diagram
files (i.e. other process files) as well as native support for Java types. Although Java types are
not explicitly called for in the BPMN 2.0 specification, in practice this is widely supported by
execution engines and deserves first-class citizenship.
* We are continuing to publish weekly builds to the update site [6]. If you see something that was
working before but is broken now, please, please, please, let me know ASAP!

On the to-do list for next week:

* Nominate Roman Smirnov for committer status to the BPMN2 Modeler project. We may have to delay this
by a week because at least one of the voters is off on PTO.
* Migrate to Graphiti 0.9.0. This is a big step and may cause some things to break because some
  Graphiti APIs have changed.
* Defining process variables and interface parameters is still a bit...cumbersome. I hope to meet
with Kris Verlaenen (JBoss/Red Hat) for a discussion about how to improve the user experience.
* Continue working on the model validation framework.
