Meeting Logistics

Jason sends apologies but is not available to attend the PMC meeting today.
Mike indicated he will not be available next week.

BIRT 2.1.3 Development

We are getting closer on IP approval on iText. Last week, Janet let us know about an additional 6 or 7 items that need to be addressed and Bruno Lowagie, the author of iText, resolved these immediately and has provided us with an iText 1.5.1 release. This will be uploaded today for the IP team's further review.

iText IP approval continues to be the gating factor for the release of BIRT 2.1.3.

General Information

BIRT 2.1.3 is the third maintenance release in the BIRT 2.1 release series and is intended to be narrow in scope since the development team is concentrating on BIRT 2.2. The 2.1.3 release is focused on addressing critical bugs identified by the community.

The Development Plan for BIRT 2.1.3 is available on the Eclipse BIRT pages (http://www.eclipse.org/birt/phoenix/project/project_plan_R2_1_3.php).

For a list of bugs assigned to the release, refer to Bugzilla: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/buglist.cgi?classification=BIRT&target_milestone=2.1.3

BIRT 2.2 Development

We are tracking for the next milestone release, RC0, which is planned for May 18.

General Information

The next major release of BIRT is BIRT 2.2, scheduled for June 2007 as part of the Europa Simultaneous Release (http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/Europa_Simultaneous_Release).

The Development Plan for BIRT 2.2 is available on the Eclipse BIRT pages (http://www.eclipse.org/birt/phoenix/project/project_plan_R2_2_0.php). A number of BIRT Project Specifications (BPS) relating to BIRT 2.2 have been posted on the BIRT Wiki.

For a list of bugs assigned to the release, refer to Bugzilla: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/buglist.cgi?classification=BIRT&target_milestone=2.2.0

Cross Tab Report Item

Aspects of the cross tab report item are included in M6, but is not yet feature complete. The target is for this feature to be ready for community testing in RC 0.

We discussed creating a "101" tutorial for this feature immediately at or just after the RC0 release in order for the community to quickly come up to speed on the feature. Paul will talk to Jason to see if these is something that Jason could do.

Windows Vista Support

The Eurpoa Platform team have done extensive testing on Windows Vista and have added this to their set of reference platforms. IBM have done some initial testing of BIRT on Vista and are requesting that the BIRT project adds support for Vista. To date, IBM have opened two issues for BIRT on Vista:

180529: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=180529
182816: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=182816

While the BIRT team will look at, and try to fix, these issues and any others reported on Vista for BIRT 2.2, we do not have the resources to do further testing ourselves on Vista. Support for Vista is a project that we will look at for BIRT 2.2.1. Bugzilla entry 183643 (https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=183643) has been created to track this.

In the meantime, we ask the community to do as much testing on Vista as possible and report any bugs found. We will do our best to address these in BIRT 2.2.

Apple OS X Support

For BIRT 2.2.1, we will look at setting up a process that allows for "Community Certified" Reference Platforms. In these cases, the BIRT project team would not do any testing, but we would commit to "best efforts" to fix any reported items. We do not have time to look at this until BIRT 2.2 has been released but will work on this as part of the BIRT 2.2.1 Development Plan. This is tracked as 183645 (https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=183645).

If we go with this approach, then we may add Apple OS X support as a Community Certified Reference Platform in BIRT 2.2.1. For now, Apple OS X support is not planned for BIRT 2.2.
