BIRT 2.1.3 Development
There are currently 29 bugs assigned to this maintenance release. Release timeframe is still TBD, with iText IP approval as the primary gating factor. We still do not have an estimated completion date from the IP approval from the EMO.
For now, we continue to note the release date as "Dependant on iText IP Approval for the EMO".
General Information
BIRT 2.1.3 is the third maintenance release in the BIRT 2.1 release series and is intended to be narrow in scope since the development team is concentrating on BIRT 2.2. The 2.1.3 release is focused on addressing critical bugs identified by the community.

BIRT 2.2 Development
BIRT 2.2 M6 is on track for the April 6 release date, with the overall release tracking for the June release date.
General Information
The next major release of BIRT is BIRT 2.2, scheduled for June 2007 as part of the Europa Simultaneous Release (http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/Europa_Simultaneous_Release).
The Development Plan for BIRT 2.2 is available on the Eclipse BIRT pages (http://www.eclipse.org/birt/phoenix/project/project_plan_R2_2_0.php). A number of BIRT Project Specifications (BPS) relating to BIRT 2.2 have been posted on the BIRT Wiki.

Prototype Features in BIRT
From time to time, we may want to incorporate prototype features into BIRT development builds (i.e. Nightly and Milestone) that are either not yet feature complete or are experimental and may be removed before the final release. This is beneficial since it allows the Community to easily review a prototype feature and provide feedback. However, we need manage expectations within the Community. We want to make sure that everyone realizes that it is a prototype feature and while they should report bugs and provide feedback, it is either not yet feature complete, or is subject to further change including possible removal before the final release.
To signify this, we will mark such features as "Prototype" in the UI wherever practical.
Apple OS X Support
Scott is continuing to research if we could add Apple OS X support for BIRT as a community driven effort.
If anyone in the community is interested in participating in testing BIRT on Apple OS X, please contact Scott directly.
Report Distribution Patch
We deferred further discussion on this topic until next week.
Updating BIRT Project Pages
There have been a number of community requested updates to the BIRT Project pages. Paul has provided these updates to Jason and he will make the updates later in the week.
Google Summer of Code
The BIRT team are willing to provide mentors in the BIRT area for the Google Summer of Code. We also have some ideas for BIRT related projects that may be of interest:
Develop a collection of Google specific BIRT Report Palette Items (example: an item for Google Maps that maps it very easy to include a Google Map in a report)
New Chart Types
A JPA ODA connector
BIRT reports for ad revenue analysis (possibly including an ODA connector)
Google Dashboard Widget to display a BIRT Report
