BIRT 2.1.2 Development
Development was completed for the BIRT code on Sunday February 11, 2007 and has been available for download since then. We will be packaging this up as part of the rest of the Callisto maintenance release, including Eclipse Platform 3.2.2, this week and providing a download package that includes the full Callisto maintenance release stack.
General Information
BIRT 2.1.2 is the second maintenance release in the BIRT 2.1 release series and is intended to be narrow in scope since the development team is concentrating on BIRT 2.2. BIRT 2.1.2 is part of the Callisto coordinated maintenance release plan (see http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/Callisto_Coordinated_Maintenance). The 2.1.2 release is focused on addressing critical bugs identified by the community, including any critical issues raised by other Callisto projects.

BIRT 2.1.3 Development
There are current 19 bugs assigned to this maintenance release. Release timeframe is still TBD, but since a major driving factor for the release is to be able to include iText in the download package, we will use iText IP approval as the gating factor. iText approval is proceeding through the IP review process with the EMO but we do not have a concrete date for completion of this at this time.
For now, we will note the release date as "Dependant on iText IP Approval for the EMO".

BIRT 2.2 Development
Due to a dependency issue on the WTP project, the BIRT 2.2 M5 candidate build that was posted for approval on Feb 8 will not be used as the final BIRT M5 build. We will be releasing a new candidate build this week that addresses the dependency issue and also is packaged with the Platform M5a build.
Jason will work on an M5 New and Notable and will aim to get that posted to the web site next week.
General Information
The next major release of BIRT is BIRT 2.2, scheduled for June 2007 as part of the Europa Simultaneous Release (http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/Europa_Simultaneous_Release).
The Development Plan for BIRT 2.2 is available on the Eclipse BIRT pages (http://www.eclipse.org/birt/phoenix/project/project_plan_R2_2_0.php). A number of BIRT Project Specifications (BPS) relating to BIRT 2.2 have been posted on the BIRT Wiki.
