10.1.2.1, not version 5.1.
Thanks Susan for clarifying the version. I want to mention that Apache Derby has released 10.2 version. http://db.apache.org/derby/releases/release-10.2.1.6.cgi 
Maybe good to include Derby v10.2,  for Birt 2.2 ...(?)
Also the DERBY-854 issue that Gary Xue reported on Derby has been fixed in the latest 10.2 as well as the 10.1.3 release.
