Minutes
InetSoft Participation in BIRT Project
InetSoft (www.inetsoft.com), an experienced software vendor in the Java reporting space, is interested in joining the BIRT project. InetSoft plans to contribute in the existing project area (rather than starting a new sub-project) and has already created a proposal for a contribution to enable BIRT Reports to output to MS Word.
As discussed at the PMC meeting on May 15, InetSoft are going to follow the steps outlined and documented in the minutes from that PMC meeting.
With this in mind, two activities are immediately underway:
Larry Liang, CTO from InetSoft has joined the PMC as an observer starting today.
Larry and team have also created a proposal for adding MS Word output to BIRT. This is attached for Bugzilla 101502 for community review (see https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=101502)
In addition, Larry and team are also in the process of identifying existing defects in bugzilla that they can provide patches for in order to work towards Committer status.
BIRT 2.1 RC4
BIRT 2.1 RC4 is schedule for this Wed, May 31 2006.
So far it does not look like we have any problems with this release milestone, although there are some outstanding, non-code related defects. One applies to the sample database and one to the website. While we intend to address these if we can, they are not show-stoppers for RC4 and may be pushed to RC5 if necessary.
BIRT 2.1 Release Review and Slides
The Callisto Release Review was last Friday, May 26th at 8am Pacific. This included BIRT 2.1 Release Review slides. Pending final review by Eclipse Legal, the Release Review was successful.
As additional information for the community, we are also working on a set of BIRT 2.1 Release Review slides that will contain more information than the Callisto slide set. Our goal is to post that during this week.
BIRT 2.1.1
Once BIRT 2.1 has been released, we plan on having a BIRT 2.1.1 maintenance release. The exact schedule is TBD but we would like this to coincide with the Platform 3.2.1 maintenance release, which we believe will likely be Q4, 2006 (possibly October).
It is unknown at this stage if the Eclipse projects plan a synchronized release around 3.2.1 and this will be subject for upcoming Planning Council meetings.
For now, we are simply noting that we do intend to have a BIRT 2.1.1 maintenance release and it is likely to be in Q4, 2006.
