BIRT 2.1 Development Plan

A draft update to the BIRT 2.1 Development Plan will be distributed to the PMC this week for review, with the goal of publishing it on the www.eclipse.org/birt web pages late this week or early next week.

All features scheduled for BIRT 2.1 continue to be tracked in Bugzilla. The goal of the Development Plan is to highlight the key features in a more accessible form. This development plan is an update to the development plan that was published in January.

EclipseCon

Most of the PMC attended EclipseCon last week. This was a great event and there continues to be a lot of interest and excitement around the BIRT project. Some highlights:

  • Standing room only at the BIRT introductory session -- ~150 people with many people turned away because the room was full
  • Advanced BIRT session was also very popular with ~130 - 150 people in the room
  • BIRT tutorial also well attended
  • BIRT Birds of a Feather had 20 people (and it was at 8:00pm in the evening!)
  • Observation from Bjorn that he was hearing lots of positive feedback on the BIRT sessions
  • BIRT technology was showing up in a lot of other talks as complementary or example technology -- a good indicator of the usefulness and popularity of the project
  • BIRT project was referenced by Ian Skerret as a good example of a project working to build community
  • The bookstore had advanced copies of the two new BIRT books on display
