[birt-dev] Charts in the ROM

I have been preparing a presentation for EclipseCon and have been taking 
the approach that an understanding of the ROM is a good place to get 
started for an in-depth understanding of the BIRT scripting, 
programming, and extension. 

First, do most of you as developers agree with this as a starting 
point?  If you had to start from zero explaining to people new to BIRT 
what the basic programming model is would you start with the ROM?

Second, it looks like all of the major components/constructs exist 
within the ROM except for charting components.  I realize that charting 
is stand alone from the rest of BIRT, but does this mean that there will 
never be chart constructs within the ROM?
