Thanks to everyone who tried out the Release Candidates. AspectJ 1.8.0 is now out. It is already in maven central. The short readme is here:

The primary goal of 1.8.0 is to enable you to use Java8 language features when writing your applications. There are no new AspectJ language constructs (yet) for exploiting Java8, for example there is no way to match/bind type annotations.
