Re: [aperi-dev] Couldnt make SAN simulator to work

Hi Vikas, let's install Aperi SRM first, then we can work together to
make sure the installation of SAN Simulator is successful.

To install Aperi SRM:

1. Make sure you have a Java Runtime Environment (JRE) from Sun 1.5.x
installed on your machine and it is in your 'PATH'
2. Download the JavaHelp 1.1.3 jar file. This file required by Aperi but
not included in the .zip file. To download this file, complete the
following steps:
   1. Go to http://java.sun.com/products/javahelp/download_binary.html.
   2. Click the Download button under the JavaHelp 1.1.3 (Zip) section.
   3. Click Accept License Agreement.
   4. Click the down arrow to download the javahelp-1_1_3.zip file.
   5. Unzip the contents of javahelp-1_1_3.zip.
   6. Locate the \jh1.1.3\javahelp\lib\jh.jar file in the directory where
      you unzipped javahelp-1_1_3.zip.
   7. Copy jh.jar to [aperi_install_dir]\.plugins\javax.help_1.0.0
   8. Copy jh.jar to [aperi_install_dir]\.gui\plugins
      \javax.help_1.0.0vUNKNOWN.

3. make sure your machine can access internet since Aperi SRM needs to
download third party code from web

4. make sure to select the following component and the install should be
successful

I think you are on the right track, it is true when starting
'configuration based DS8000 cimom' from the command line, there will no

Once you install Aperi SRM, you should be able to discover the simulated

  Hi,

Yes i was able to do it however not sure whats the way for CIMOM, i tried
with Configuration based option while running setup and chose to create
  new
  Cimom Instance.

I did chosen for DS8000 and other option for MOF files n all and
  completed
  the setup.

However if i start the CIMOM it stops on the screen but stucked at the
screen and doesnt show like port no n all.

Dont know Snapshot based will help or config based will help.

Well lemme come to the bas epoint.

I am new to storage and wanna learn about DS and SAN swicthes etc. so
  want
a simulator where i can practise on these technologies so was looking at
  this software,

  What do i do :-).

  Help Ramani.

   Hi Vikas,

If, you are able to start the SAN Simulator successfully by starting
simulator_start_cimom.bat - it should be up and running.

You are right, you can use Aperi SRM to discover and browse the details
   of
the simulated device. You can also access the details of the simulated
device from SAN Simulator by one of the following ways:
        i) writing a small java program using SBLIM CIM Client
( http://sblim.wiki.sourceforge.net/CimClient). SBLIM CIMClient jar file
   is
also packaged inside SAN Simulator. You should find it inside
   SIMULATOR_HOME\lib
        ii) Using SBLIM ECUTE explorer

Seems i made you confused a bit.

I installed SAN simulator an dhope its installed fine. Now to simualte
  or
work on the devices i need to access it.

For that i hope SNM is required. I may be wrong but dont know how to get
access to SAN simulator to work on.

Please correct me if i am wrong.

      Hi
ok ,for the storage manager you need to copy the driver files to
   the
      plugin directories.
         1. Locate the DB2 JDBC driver that was installed during the DB2
installation. On WinHi Nissamdows, check C:\Program Files\IBM
\SQLLIB\Java. The filenames are db2jcc.jar and
            db2jcc_license_cu.jar.
         1. Copy the driver files to the following Aperi directories:
         2. [aperi_install_dir]\plugins\org.eclipse.aperi.db_1.0.0
            [aperi_install_dir]\gui\plugins
         1. Go to [aperi_install_dir]\plugins\org.eclipse.aperi.db_1.0.0
            \MANIFEST.
         2. Delete MANIFEST.MF.
         3. Rename DB2-MANIFEST.MF to MANIFEST.MF.
You already did these steps also?.
You were able to start the storage manager with Derby as the

It seems you missed copying the DB2 driver files to the
  simulator
        lib directory.
           1. Copy the DB2 JDBC driver into the [SIMULATOR_HOME] directory.
    To
do this, locate the DB2 JDBC driver that was installed during
the DB2 installation in the Plan for the database repository
section. On Windows, check C:\Program Files\IBM\SQLLIB\Java.
           2. For DB2 v8.2.: Copy db2java.zip, db2jcc.jar,
              db2jcc_license_cisuz.jar, and db2jcc_license_cu.jar into
              [SIMULATOR_HOME]\lib.
              For DB2 v9.5: Copy db2java.zip and db2jcc.jar into
              [SIMULATOR_HOME]\lib.
