[aperi-dev] Aperi Project lead

At the Aperi development meeting this morning I announced that I have accepted another position in IBM and would be leaving the Aperi project. I have  enjoyed working with the Aperi team very much and will miss the community.  I appreciate all of you who have supported me for the last two years in the project and last year as Project Lead.  Regarding the Project Lead, we will need to fill that position on the project.  I have discussed the situation with our PMO, Bjorn Freeman Benson, and I have a proposal that I would like to put forward to the community.

I believe the Aperi Project Lead role requires a person with strengths in two major areas – technical knowledge, and project management.  A subject matter expert combined with organizational skills is key to driving our plan and handling the legal aspects necessary to keep the project and our offerings viable.  I know of someone who has those skills, as well as a desire to see the Aperi project continue to succeed.

Al Heitman was one of the authors of the IBM contribution to Aperi.  Al has spent the last 20 years in the storage  software business, the majority of that time as a developer.  He held various positions in software and firmware roles, his last being the TPC Fabric team lead, prior to becoming a project manager 18 months ago.  Al holds several storage management patents and has been involved in the legal side of IBM open source activities.  Given the requirements for the Aperi Project Lead role, I believe Al is excellently suited and would do a super job.

My proposal is to nominate Al for the Aperi Project Lead position.  I will put forward his name to the Aperi committer community later today for a vote.

Cheers,   Tom
