Re: LinuxWorld update (Re: Fw: [aperi-dev] Proposed abstract for ManDevCon 2007 presentation)

Wow. Zumastor looks very interesting.
On the strategic side it might  make a very nice sort of reference storage platform for us to work with, and on the tactical side it looks like something we could use for test (assuming it had an SMI-S provider, of course).

LinuxWorld update (Re: Fw: [aperi-dev] Proposed abstract for        ManDevCon 2007 presentation)

Hi Brenda,

That's great news, I did submit the abstract and am waiting to see
if it's accepted.

Just a quick update from LinuxWorld. Yesterday we met Dan
Kegel of Google's Zumastor project http://zumastor.googlepages.com/

Dan also leads a team that builds Eclipse plugins for Google.

The Zumastor team is building a Linux-based storage server, and is
interested in the management aspects of both SMI-S and Aperi, for
Linux. I've copied their mailing list in the hope of starting a discussion
about some of the topics below.

Thanks,
Robert

Hi Robert,   I'm sure I can find an IBM SanJose area person to team with
you on this.   I see the abstracts were due last week, did you submit ?
Thanks for working on this, Brenda

Jfyi... sharing with the list, anyone interested in co-presenting?

This session presents an update on the state of Open Source implementations
of Storage Management Standards, and how they are being used to improve the
manageability of Enterprise Linux platforms. We describe a Linux
implementation of SNIA's SMI-S Array and Volume Management registered
profiles; specifically the Extent Composition Subprofile, Block Services
Package, Copy Services Subprofile and Health Package. We also give an
overview of the Aperi open source Storage Resource Management project, as
an example of an SMI-S based storage management framework. An interop
demonstration will be given, showing Aperi managing SMI-S Primordial Pools
and Volumes hosted by a Linux server running Block Services Package CIM
providers. Finally, we discuss and illustrate the value of the SMI-S
Storage Management standard, in the context of other systems management
standards for System Virtualization (SVPC-V), Server Management (SMASH) and
High Availability Clustering (CIM_Cluster).

Thanks,
Robert
