RE: [alf-dev] RE: ALF SCM Vocabulary - Data Model version 5 + first pass a schema types

Here is a simplified view of the ALF SCM data model - at least the main
part of it. Apologies for the tif format. I don't have a pdf printer
handy. However it should open in MS Paint and a number of other apps
you may have handy if you are running Windows XP and have Office.

Basically the same picture but I eliminated some of the clutter, moved
Lable and added Lock. I am unsure about Branch. I removed Revision
Identifier but I think we may need it.

We will discuss this in the SCM vocab. call tomorrow.

Brian, if you have time could you post a pdf version of the first page
of the Visio as a reply to this thread. Thanks

Tim

ALF SCM Vocabulary team,

I have attached both the Visio source and a PDF version of version 4 of
the ALF SCM data model.

Some notes:

1. Anticipating the duplicate definition of common entity types in
different Vocabularies, I have started an "ALF Common" Vocabulary (or
Subject area) intended to hold the definition of data structures that
will reoccur in many vocabularies. Based on experience with other large
models, I would expect that concepts such as organizations and their
structures, users (individuals), roles, permissions, date expressions,
and potentially logical descriptions of data may be candidates to be
included in the "ALF Common".

2. I've reconciled the data model diagram with the Concepts on the WIKI.
Once exception: I retained the "SCM System" entity type, but we should
decide whether this is the same as "Repository". Unless an SCM system
can have multiple repositories, I expect they should be one and the
same.

Regards,
Brian

I have updated section 3 (Objects) of the SCM ALF Vocabulary Wiki to
bring it up-to-date with the Word doc and with our subsequent
discussions:

http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/ALF/SCM_Vocabulary

That's all I had time for this morning. I'll try to update the Use Cases
section within the next week or so.
