I was asking for a generic search API in

but the ticket was closed as WONT FIX.

I still think a generic search API makes a lot of sense, so please be free to open another one and communicate the need for one ;-).

This question has come up before, cf. thread "Resolving version range for secondary artifact" [0].

The current format of the maven-metadata.xml files backing the range resolution in the maven-aether-provider does not support classifiers.
