Description Michael Valenta CLA 2003-10-20 16:15:53 EDT
Compare editors do not show the ancestor for incoming and outgoing changes.
The problem is that a user may not understand why the ancestor is not being
shown. It would quickly dispell any confusion if the ancestor was shown even
if it is equal to the local or the remote.

See bug 45041 for context

There are two related preferences for this issue:
"Initially Show Ancestor Pane"
"Show Pseudo Conflicts"

Are you suggesting that the current default (bot are off) should be changed?
Comment 2 Michael Valenta CLA 2003-12-11 09:29:34 EST
No, the problem was that if the local and base resources were equal, the
ancestor pane could not be revealed by clicking on the "show ancestor" button.
It appears that the compare editor assumes that the user does not need to see
the base since it is the same as the local. Although technically correct, it
would help reduce user confusion by showing the base anyway.

Enabled that ancestor pane can be shown in non-conflicting cases too.
