Description Tod Creasey CLA 2002-04-16 11:13:07 EDT
It is not possible to resize the columns in the TaskList with the keyboard.
This is a general problem with the Tables throughout the Desktop.
Comment 1 Nick Edgar CLA 2002-04-16 12:17:37 EDT
Also a problem in the Properties view
Comment 2 Nick Edgar CLA 2002-04-16 12:18:16 EDT
Should add column abstraction to JFace, and a reusable dialog to allow column
sizing and sorting.
Comment 3 Nick Edgar CLA 2002-04-17 12:07:49 EDT
Defer to post 2.0.

Note this also covers sorting.
Comment 4 Nick Edgar CLA 2002-04-30 11:16:22 EDT
Column sorting can be done in JAWS using the JAWS cursor.
Column resizing can be done using Windows' MouseKeys support.

Here's the response from the Accessibility Center:

<SR: The AC does NOT agree with the OTI assessment. If you have to use
MouseKeys or the JAWS cursor to navigate to controls that are activated with
the mouse, it is not accessible. If you can click on the column to sort, you
must provide a way to access the column with the keyboard OR provide an
equivalent alternative method to sort the columns. For example, in Notes 6,
they provide a dialog that allows you to sort the columns.>
Comment 8 Phill Jenkins CLA 2002-09-12 19:00:35 EDT
Keyboard access to functions, such as resizing the table columns, is
independent from JAWs. A sighted user not using JAWs and not using a mouse,
but only using the keyboard needs to be able to accomplish the same task, such
as resizing the table, with only the keyboard. A context menu, properties
dialog, and menu items are 3 different possible techniques used to query and
change the table column size without using a mouse.
Comment 9 Nick Edgar CLA 2003-01-28 10:28:16 EST
Can now change the sort order in an accessible way via the view menu.
Resizing table columns is still an issue.

i can't figure out how to resize the table columns in windows explorer by
using the keys (we use this same native control). similarly the Mac OS X does
not provide keyboard resizing of their table controls. they both make sure
that the full label is shown in a tooltip.

i agree that being able to resize these in some other manner would be nice,
but i'm not convinced that we fail accessibility (because you can always see
the full label in the tooltip). i'm moving this PR to 'enhancement'
Comment 11 Tod Creasey CLA 2006-06-22 08:34:12 EDT
There are currently no plans to work on this feature
Comment 12 Boris Bokowski CLA 2008-04-23 17:15:00 EDT
Reopening.
Comment 13 Boris Bokowski CLA 2008-04-23 17:27:17 EDT
I have added an entry "Columns..." to the view menu of all new markers views. Selecting the entry opens a dialog for configuring column widths.
Comment 14 Boris Bokowski CLA 2008-04-29 12:50:58 EDT
Released a fix for the mnemonics, and added missing menu contributions for the other marker views.
Comment 15 Boris Bokowski CLA 2008-05-01 15:59:40 EDT
Verified on Windows XP using I20080501-0100.
