Bug 79268 includes an API request for the system folder icon.  Attachment 20615 [details]
and attachment 20616 [details] show how to implement this on OS X and GTK+ 2.4.

Maybe this would be more appropriate as part of the Display.getSystemImage()
API?  Since the patches add a static method, the API is quite similar.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.
