I would like to be able to display a view for only as long as it has focus, 
similar to fast-views, but placed anywhere. The reason is that fastviews open 
up far away from the editor area, and the size of a fastview is not flexible 
enough.  The behavior would be identical to a torn off view, except the view 
would disappear as soon as it becomes inactive.  To bring the view back, it 
could have an icon on the fastview bar, or for me I would just invoke the 
keybinding I have assigned to that view.

The translucency stuff SWT was playing at EclipseCon with would be interesting 
here for views like the problems view.  When problems are added, it could fade-
in.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
