Description Slava Go CLA 2020-04-10 06:43:48 EDT
Hi,
Noticed recently that Eclipse prevents MacBook Pro to use integrated intel graphics card and forces to use descrete graphics card which causes excessive battery darain.

Nothing is running inside the Eclipse, no processes in debug or so.

Please advise.

Thanks

The issue is started in 4.15, before that version it was fine.
On my mac only 2 apps forces to use discrete graphics - Photoshop and Eclipse, but I don't think that Eclipse need such powerful graphics (even nothing is running inside the Eclipse). No any other apps including Chrome, IntelliJ Idea is not forcing discrete grahics.

Which macOS version are you using? Does it happen always (even after restart)?
Any one knows what change could cause this?

I'm using Catalina, it happens all the time, constantly, but I think the issue with themes. When I checked previous versions I checked clean installation. But my eclipse is using DevStyle Darkest Dark theme (from the market place) and I found that this theme causes that.

Thanks

To confirm, the problem doesn't happen when using the themes shipped with Eclipse?
May be you could report the problem to the specific theme plugin developers on Marketplace.

Can confirm that with built in themes there's no issue. I reported about that to the theme developer, but they said that they don't know any code that can prevent this or cause to that.

Working now without 3rd party theme enabled.
And noticed that after some time Eclipse switch to discrete graphics card and not allows to switch back to integrated, need to restart eclipse to switch back to integrated.

I'm having my Eclipse instances running for days (Catalina) without custom themes. I do not experience in the activity monitor that Eclipse switched to require high perf graphics.
Seems not reproducible and so low change to do something.

Are you using build-in Eclipse dark theme ?

Both light and dark with different instances. I will observe this further.

I have never observed the issue on my MBP in the meantime. I tend to close this one as not reproducible.
