Eclipse text editor drops UTF-8 BOM from text files.
- If BOM exists in file, it must be retained. There always is  reason why it is put there.

Works for me in 4.12 and recent build. If I just save the file BOM is preserved. Did you mean Save as? That would be bug 64567.
