It's not unusual to have dozens of proposals in a Select/Combo. In that case the widgets become poor from a usability perspective as it gets hard to pick the right element. 

When using a Combo in -- for instance -- the properties view of the EMF Reflective Editor will consider what one type to restrict the selection. That would be a nice addition to this widget.

Please note that there are other options which are pretty close from a usability perspective: a Text widget + completion for instance and one could decide to implement the "Select" widget using this other solution
