It would be nice if the status bar height could be configured. Maybe by specifying a font size to be used?

Right now it takes rather a lot of screen space for info that one rarely looks at. IMO, half of the height it has now would suffice.

I'll give it a try. Never done it before, so i'm not familiar with the codebase etc.
Could you point me to the correct (sub)module?

I suspect the rss news in the status bar (not moveable) fixes the height of the status bar.

I see you already signed a CLA; so you just need to install a 64bit oomph, switch to advanced mode, and download an Eclipse IDE to develop against Platform UI, and Runtime.
