It would be nice if one could synchronize horizontal scrolling in the compare
editor.

If I'm comparing differences on a long line, its very inconvenient to have to
scroll each half independently.

Developers, please have a look at Araxis Merge (http://www.araxis.com). IMHO 
this is the ideal compare/merge tool. Would be wonderful to have such a tool in 
eclipse :-D

#0: you can use the arrow up/down buttons in the compare editor's pane title to step through the 
changes within a line. Since this will reveal the differences, it does the synchronized scrolling that 
you are asking for. 

#1: you are invited to implement whatever functionality you think is missing from Eclipse. I will 
gladly accept any contributions you might have. However, if you want us to implement missing 
functionality, you'll have to be more specific.
