This issue is a matter of personal preference: I couldn't find anyone here who thinks that inserting empty lines would make it easier to see the differences. And most of the current compare/merge tools are using the Eclipse approach. In addition inserting empty lines wouldn't be just a new preference but more of a rewrite of the compare editor. So we have no plans to add this functionality for 3.0. However, since Eclipse is an open source project, you can add this functionality easily: the Compare plugin provides an extension point for the text compare. I believe this is a valid request. The statement in comment 1 is false since Compare does not support multiple contributions for the same file type. This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet. If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant. |
