VI to advise. SWT still waiting to get a JAWS 4.5 license I now have JAWS 5.0, and it appears to have the same performance issues as JAWS 4.5. I will try to figure out what has changed from 4.0. I also have a copy of Window-Eyes 4.5, and although running Window-Eyes definitely does slow down SWT performance, it is markedly better than JAWS 5.0 (JAWS seems to almost hang the system at times). I have talked to a software developer from Window-Eyes, and he says they have to monitor all TextOut calls, which is a tall order, and definitely one of the reasons why screen reader programs slow down the entire system. (The other is that they need to be notified of every focus change event). Freedom Scientific released an upgrade for JAWS 5.0 today. This upgrade includes the code that gets rid of the sluggishness we were seeing in Eclipse with 4.51 and 5.0. Anyone, who is authorized for 5.0 can download the upgrade from: http://www.freedomscientific.com/fs_products/software_jaws5intro.asp I think this problem is now solved. Tried running with the new JAWS 5.0 upgrade (5.00.809). I see SIGNIFICANT performance improvements. EVERYTHING is snappier - startup (JAWS and eclipse), switching perspectives, widget creation, opening dialogs... I am closing this bug report, and I recommend that everyone upgrade to JAWS 5.00.809. |
