It would be convenient if I could select the Version and build number in the
about dialog.

It would simplify the inclusion of the version/build number in bug reports.

I just did the following:
Help->About Eclipse Platform
select the 2 lines shown above
ctrl-C to copy
come back to this bug report
ctrl-V to paste

It looks like you did the same in your last comment.  Is this not what you 
want?

We can select the version/build number from the about dialog and cut/paste 
them.  Closing this PR.

Works in Version: 2.1.0 Build id: 200305260010

Apparently it only did not work in the build I've used :/
