code to create background underlay
Here is the relevant code to put the image in the background. This works to a point, but as soon as the app puts up another shell (dialog box, etc.), the image disappears leaving a plain white background. As you can see from the date of the bug, this has been a problem for years, and is a rather visible problem, not subtle. Hopefully, someone smarter than me can get to the bottom of it and fix it before releasing 2.0...
