It would be nice if you had a query or category that a count would be shown. For example, I have a lot of queries that target milestones... ie., 'All PDE Bugs 3.5M3'

It would be nice to see something like 'All PDE Bugs 3.5M3 [5 bugs open]' or something to that matter. It seems this could be achieved with just a decorating label provider or some type.

Have you tried using task search for planning purposes (see also bug 217864)? The search view shows the number of open and resolved tasks.

I think that displaying the number of matching tasks would overload the task list. It is intentionally limited to only display the most important information and makes details available through the tooltip. But since the task list is used in many different ways it can be difficult to find a good match that works well for everyone and a more flexible configurations have been discussed on bug 199345.

I am marking this as a duplicate. Chris, it would be great if you could add your requirements to bug 199345.
