I tried to attach a scanned file that was in "tif" format. Using Mylyn, the option available was GIF, PNG etc. The file does not open when attached with the wrong type (of course).

Using Bugzilla's web interface, you can select "auto detect", which correctly identifies "image/tiff" as the type and can consequently open the attachment with appropriate application.

I have added image/tiff to the list of supported mime types.
