The search view is a multi-instance view with history and the ability to pin the current search view to make sure it stays open.  We should investigate whether we can support this as a general concept so that other view implementers can use it rather than having to implement their own (and potentially introducing inconsistencies).

The History and the Console view already have something similar. The Synchronize view has also pin functionality; however, it does not spawn another view, but just makes sure a synchronization is not removed from the history.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.
