20020517-I:
Clicking on a CTab to activate a view doesn't work.
Clicking on X to clse a view doesn't work.
Flipping pages in the Preferences dialog doesn't work.

This makes 20020517-I unusable.  This is a serious regression from 20020515.

Another manifestation of bug 16458.
Temporarily removed the questionable code, which solves the problem.

Please find out why the "questionable code" was added, and make sure it 
is either not needed, or an "unquestionable" version is written.
