URLHyperlinkDetector looks for the sequence "://" and URLHyperlink.open() opens
a web browser with the URL.

It could be useful if "platform:" URLs like "platform:/resource/..." were
accepted by the detector and the open() method opened an editor for the
resource. Platform URLs don't have an authority so the "://" would have to be
relaxed to ":/" or perhaps have a special check for "platform:/".

Note: class URLHyperlinkDetector exists in 2 plugins (org.eclipse.jface.text and
org.eclipse.ui.editors) and I think the intention is to keep the implementation
of the two the same. But maybe Jface is supposed to be independent of the
platform and this shouldn't apply there?

This is no longer a problem with the code in HEAD.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
