Oh, and BTW, link files now only work if the target directory includes the empty, and seemingly pointless, .eclipseextension file. Good times.

Agreed, it's a mess. I've come to the realization that in the new p2 era, you're better off simply installing everything into the eclipse root. However, you can now (3.5M6) use an existing install as a p2 repo when installing into a new Eclipse, eg., for when moving from one platform milestone to another.

I've always wondered how difficult it would be to write a small tool to turn OSGi packages into .deb dpkg packages and a small tool to generate apt repositories for them.

Being able to apt-get install eclipse eclipse-jdt eclipse-pdt, using Debian's apt tools, through my handy apt proxy would rock.

I would like to know how to change the install/update location of addons.

I have installed Eclipse and some addons declared with ".link" files. If i want to update addons, P2 doesn't install updates in the addons directories defined in ".link" files but in its main plugins directory.

Is there a way to choose the install location like in Europa ?

Well, that is all nice and dandy. But won't updates to the installed plugins/features be put into the main installation as opposed to in the linked folder (As mentioned in bug 230373 - https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=230373)? Making the entire performance irrelevant as you are forced to 'clean up' every time there is an update.

Thanks Nick!

As for the BPMN modeler we have asked to have it packaged as an EPP. I'll compare both procedures and will let you know which one is the best to create a product.

[...] Build Workshop 2: Build Harder We?d originally planned to produce a vserver image or vserver config script, but since there?s still ample work to be done to genericize my existing image to work outside Modeling, this seemed a shorter initial path to prototype. ….releng - http://dev.eclipse.org/blogs/releng [...]

Thanks for coming to Ottawa to help make this happen. I, as Bjorn I'm sure, will really be pushing for this in Q3.
