My name is Hongchang Lin. I was born in Haikou, a lovely seaside city on Hainan Island, south China. Now I am living in Shanghai.

I received my Bachelor and Master degree from Beihang University (BUAA, located in Beijing), both major in Computer Science, on 2003 and 2006 respectively. When pursuing my master degree, I was a member of National Key Lab. of Virtual Reality Technology, and participated in some research projects (focus on Collaborative Augmented Reality, Collaborative Vritual Design and Manufacture, Grid Computing) funded by NSFC, Ministry of Education, etc. My master thesis received Best Thesis Award of Graduate School (top 2%).

However, to be honest, I don’t think I made great achievement on academic research. Actually, I prefer to become a engineer than a researcher. I want to work for practical projects that have applications in real life. I thought I have to start on a new way.

It was lucky that I finally got a job in software engineering industry. I joined Actuate Corporation Shanghai on Apr., 2006, took a position as Software Engineer. Since that time, I work in Actuate Shanghai GUI team and participate in the development of Eclipse BIRT.

Now, I realize that absolutely it is my great honor to be an Eclipse committer, and it is my great opportunity to work in Eclipse BIRT–an outstanding open source project. Through the work during the past 15 months, I develop my technical skills greatly and learn much knowledge. I do believe I am going forward on the right way. Yes, I love my job, I love Eclipse.
