New major Bugzilla release on the horizon
Bugzilla 3.0, expected to be released in early April, is sure to be a crowd pleaser with a host of new features our Committers have been requesting. Here are some highlights from the Release Notes:
- Custom Fields. The IP team will appreciate this flexibility on IPZilla, as it runs a vanilla Bugzilla installtion as well.
- Shared Saved Searches.
- Custom Resolutions. No longer limited to fixed, wontfix, worksforme, remind, later and invalid, we’ll be able to add RESOLVED/NEVER as Alex dearly loves. Perhaps even RESOLVED/FINALLY and RESOLVED/CANTBEARSED
Joking aside, we might want to consider removing LATER and REMIND, as these are arguably not valid resolutions. You can read up and comment on bug 177497.
- Edit Components in your own product. This functionality is available as a separate Committer Tool, but native support within Bugzilla is much better.
- Default CC list for components. Yay.

Is it possible to add those vote fields that mozilla’s bugzilla has? ie., you can vote on people’s patches within the bug report?
for example, look at
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=314757
There are flags on the bug themselves, plus on patches. For patches, it can be up to committers to + or - them. For general bugs, it would be useful for PMC members to give their general approval+ to get things in. I think it will be easier to keep track of things that way, what do you think?

Those are called ‘flags’. We used them in Eclipsezilla for the 2006 converence voting. I liked them.

Yeah, I don’t know how those work…

I opened https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=177815 to request feedback on the use of flags for Eclipse bugzilla. Obviously, setting up global flags is one thing, and project-specific flags would require project lead approval.

Yes, get rid of LATER and REMIND. These are used to hide bugs/feature requests and pretend they are not there.

I’d be a happy man if LATER/REMIND were RESOLVE REMOVED
